About

Teesam, photographer

Olufemi Titilayo Samuel, popularly known as Teesam, is a fine art photographer whose practice moves across portraiture, landscape, street photography and contemporary urban studies. His work explores city, movement, labour, place, transformation, colour and light, using photography not simply to record what is visible, but to examine the meanings held within everyday spaces and encounters.

Working through distinct photographic projects, Teesam is interested in the relationship between people and their environments. Markets, streets, architecture, coastlines and moments of human activity become spaces through which he considers memory, identity, livelihood, change and belonging. Repetition, gesture, atmosphere and light often become important visual elements within the work, allowing ordinary scenes to take on a more reflective and sometimes abstract quality.

His approach begins with observation rather than a fixed conclusion. He looks for the moment when light, movement, form and human presence come together in a way that alters how a familiar subject is seen. This can be found in the movement of a crowded city, the careful arrangement of produce in a market, the changing surface of the sea, the geometry of architecture, or the temporary traces created by artificial light.

Across his practice, Teesam uses photography as a way of slowing down the act of looking, drawing attention to details and relationships that can easily disappear within everyday life.
